The most extraordinary treks on earth
Trekking is very popular. It gives you an enormous sense of freedom and you feel at one with the nature around you. It is also a very accessible activity, even for the novice trekkers there are enough possibilities. But what are the best treks?
Prepare well
Before we announce our favorites, first things first. Of course, it makes quite a difference whether you go trekking in a country like Luxembourg or in Nepal, high in the Himalayas. Always prepare yourself well. This starts with your flights to your destination. Check the passenger rights if your flight is delayed or canceled. Read well and check what equipment you need. There is enough information online.
Our favourite treks
Which trekking is the best is of course very personal but we have selected six trekkings on different continents.
Europe
Iceland is known for its extraordinary landscape. One of the best treks you can do here is the Laugavegur Trail which takes you past hot springs, lava fields, glaciers and ice caves. It is a popular trek that is quite tough in some parts.
Asia
When you say trekking, many people immediately think of Nepal and especially Mount Everest. You do not have to be a mountaineer to see this giant. During the Everest Base Camp Trek, for which you must have the necessary experience, you will come face to face with the highest mountain on earth.
Oceania
It may be far away, but one of the most beautiful tracks ‘Down Under’ is the Milford Track on New Zealand’s South Island. It takes you through Fiordland National Park, straight through the jungle, through deep valleys and along crystal clear rivers.
North America
The Grand Canyon is one of the most beautiful areas on the North American continent. You can make several hikes here. The South Kaibab Trail is a trek for experienced hikers that leads you down along steep trails. Here you can enjoy the most beautiful views of the Grand Canyon.
South America
The W-Circuit to Torres del Paine is a trek through Patagonia in southern Chile. The beautiful trek leads you through the National Park with its stunning flora and fauna, past glaciers and beautifully coloured lakes. You will have a great view on the three pointed ‘towers’ that tower above the steppe.
Africa
If you are a lover of WildLife, then the Wilderness Trail in the Kruger Park in South Africa is really something for you. During this huge adventure you come to places where you normally do not come during the safari. You sleep in the wilderness and you learn, among other things, how to track.
