Know About the Selection Process of JEE Main 2019
From this year, the NTA is the main governing body for the JEE main exams. So, the exam will be conducted by the NTA. Thus, there are some changes in the selection process of JEE Main. So, it is absolutely necessary to have knowledge about JEE Main Counselling before appearing for the exam. Although, the first set of papers are already done. So, for the people who are yet to give to the exam, this can be a timely article.
JEE Main Counselling
For people who want to get an admission into B.E/B. Tech or B.Arch in top institutes in India, JEE is the main exam. But to get into these colleges is not so easy. You need to know all the procedures that these colleges follow for the admission through JEE main. So, here are the steps that all these colleges follow.
Step 1: Eligibility Check
Before taking admission in any of such colleges you need to know about the eligibility criteria of that college. For JEE Main, there are three areas for your eligibility check. And these areas are the age limit, educational qualification, and qualification marks in 12th. For age limit, there are different provisions for students based on their caste. For general category students, those who are born after October 1st, 1994 are accepted. For SC/ST and PWD, 5 years of age relaxation is given.
As far as educational qualification is concerned, candidates who are appearing for the exam must have cleared the 12th exam in 2017 or 2018. The students who are appearing for the 12th exam this year can also apply. For general category, a minimum of 75% in the 12th exam is accepted for JEE Main, while for SC/ST/PWD candidates, 65% is the minimum requirement.
Candidates need to give at least 5 subjects exam for the qualifying exams. If you have met all these requirements then only you can apply for the selection process of JEE Main. After all these conditions are met, you need to register for JEE Main. After registering there are multiple ways for you pay the required amount. This amount varies as per the category.
Step 2: Ranking Procedure for JEE Main
After you have filled out the form, you can start the preparations for the exam. There are some important dates that you need to remember after applying for JEE Main. After the exams, there are different steps candidates need to follow.
Answer Key: When the exams are done, NTA releases the answer key on their official website. You can check out and compare your answers by logging in the website. There are also some provisions made by the NTA if you think any answer is wrong in the answer key, you can log in the website and raise your dispute. After the results, the cutoffs are released by the NTA. The admission of any student depends on this released cutoff. The official exam body releases the cutoff for different categories. For the general category, the cutoffs were 81 and 74 in 2017 and 2018 respectively. For OBC, the cutoffs were 49 and 45 in 2017 and 2018.
Once the cutoffs are released the process of counselling begins. This is known as the JEE Main counselling. It is conducted by the body called JOSAA. They are in charge of the seat allocation and main counselling process for JEE Main.
Step 3: Seat Allocation Procedure
NTA only conducts the exam for JEE Main. The results and all the other data is shared with JOSAA authority. Before you choose the seats, it is advised to check the availability. The counselling is conducted online and candidates are free to delete, reorder, and add their choices. Once the seat is locked by the candidates, they will not be able to unlock the seat again. The candidates who failed to fill the choice or save them are not considered for seat allotment and admission process. They can fill their choices in the later rounds of the process.
After the seat allotment the student needs to deposit an initial fee. They have to submit the relevant original documents for verification purposes. Further, proof of online payment needs to be presented at the time of reporting.
